Specialised Counselling Techniques

Workshop Overview:

Specialised Counselling Techniques workshops are designed to enhance the skills of career practitioners working with both young people and adults, recognising that each group brings unique needs, experiences, and challenges to career development conversations. Through dedicated youth and adult-focused sessions, participants explore how established career development and counselling theories can be translated into practical strategies that support identity development, decision-making, and career planning across different life stages.

The workshops place a strong emphasis on creativity and advanced questioning techniques as tools for increasing client engagement and achieving meaningful outcomes. Practitioners learn how to use storytelling, visual prompts, reflective activities, and purposeful questioning to build rapport, uncover deeper insights, and guide clients toward greater clarity and action. By combining theory with practical application, these sessions equip practitioners with effective approaches to facilitate more engaging, impactful, and efficient career counselling conversations.

Specialised Counselling Techniques – Young People
Designed for practitioners working with adolescents and young adults, this workshop explores counselling techniques that encourage engagement, trust, self-awareness and career exploration. Participants develop practical strategies for working with young people who may be uncertain, disengaged or reluctant to discuss their future, using age-appropriate questioning, strengths-based conversations, narrative and creative techniques. The workshop focuses on helping young people find their voice, recognise possibilities and build confidence in making education, training and career decisions.

Specialised Counselling Techniques – Adults
Designed for practitioners supporting adults through career decisions, change and transition, this workshop develops advanced conversational and counselling techniques for exploring career identity, values, strengths, barriers and future possibilities. Participants practise purposeful questioning, reflective listening, narrative approaches and strategies for navigating uncertainty, redundancy, career change, return to work and competing life priorities.
