Career Development in Practice (CDIP)
Workshop Overview:
This workshop provides participants with the knowledge, skills, and practical strategies required to develop and deliver effective career services across a range of educational settings, including secondary schools, specialist and alternative education environments, and community-based schools. Designed for both new and experienced practitioners, the session explores the foundations of career development practice, including career education frameworks, whole-school approaches to curriculum design, professional standards, ethical practice, and the day-to-day role of a career practitioner.
Participants will also develop an understanding of key career development resources and systems, including the Australian Blueprint for Career Development (ABCD), the Career Industry Council of Australia (CICA) Professional Standards, labour market information, and the connections between education, training, and employment pathways. The workshop further examines service evaluation, benchmarking, professional membership, and ongoing professional development, equipping participants with the tools to build, review, and strengthen career services that effectively support students, educators, and communities. Industry-specific and specialist-setting versions of the workshop are also available to meet the needs of different sectors.
Topics Covered:
- Development and delivery of career services in schools. It covers secondary, SDS, alternative settings and community-based schools.
- Understanding and using career education frameworks
- Development of career education curriculum as a whole school approach
- A day in the Life of a career practitioner
- Role and responsibilities of career practitioners including ethical practice
- Understanding the Career Industry Council of Australia Industry Professional Standards for Career Development for Career Development Practitioners and the Australian Blueprint for Career Development (ABCD)
- Sourcing labour market data and using it effectively to support students, teachers, and parents
- System knowledge and initiatives – education, training, and employment understanding how systems are integrated.
- Benchmarking career services – and how to evaluate and report on service delivery
- Role and importance of Professional Membership and ongoing Professional Development.
This session is designed to equip participants with the knowledge, tools, and strategies needed to develop and deliver effective career services within a variety of educational settings. Whether you’re a new career practitioner or an educator exploring this field, this workshop offers valuable insights tailored to your needs.
These sessions are also available as Industry specific or Specialist Settings (Focused) at present the current model explores the education sector.
